We have a very special edition of our newsletter today — and a big announcement that’s been a year in the making! 🎉
We’ve been quietly working behind the scenes since last June, and after months of planning, dreaming, designing, and decision-making, we’re finally ready to share the news…
For the past five years, we’ve been honored to care for your pets in the comfort of your homes. Now, in just a few short weeks, we’ll begin building a space of our own — a Veterinary Care Center rooted right here in Plainfield. And by late 2025, you’ll be able to come to our home too. 🏥🐾
Yes we are officially breaking ground on The Welcome Waggin’s forever home! 🎉
Our new facility will be more than just a building. It will be a fully equipped care center, designed to:
- Provide surgical and dental services in-house for our housecall patients
- Serve pets and families who prefer or need care at a physical location
- Keeps housecalls at the heart of our mission
This dual model — a housecall practice plus a brick-and-mortar veterinary facility — allows us to deliver the best medicine possible, while supporting the team of passionate professionals who make it happen.
Why We’re Building — and Why It Matters
Veterinary Medicine is evolving. And for us, that means finding new ways to serve pets with whole-hearted, evidence-based, and compassionate care.
From day one, The Welcome Waggin’ has stood on three pillars:
- Preventative wellness
- Chronic disease management
- Comfort and end-of-life care
These pillars only grow stronger when we have the tools to do more. A dental procedure shouldn’t require a referral. A senior pet shouldn’t miss surgery because the facility isn’t familiar. A team member shouldn’t have to choose between meaningful work and a sustainable work environment.
This building — our Veterinary Care Center — is the next step in practicing the medicine we believe in. It’s how we elevate care for our patients and elevate purpose for our team.
Our Story: From One Room to Five Doctors
In April 2020, Dr. Waeltz took a leap of faith and purchased this small housecall practice. It started in a single room at home… then grew into the dining room. In 2021, we moved into a charming rental space in downtown Plainfield, where we became part of something bigger — a vibrant, welcoming community.
We’ve loved being neighbors on Lockport Street — sipping coffee at Krema, grabbing lunch at our favorite local restaurants, and celebrating Cruise Nights with the rest of Plainfield. This town embraced us, and we’re proud to have grown right alongside it.
Since then, we’ve grown into a team of five veterinarians and nine incredible support staff — and we’re just getting started. 🐶🐱
Of course, growth hasn’t always been easy. We’ve faced rejections. Lost sleep. Walked away from deals that didn’t feel right. But we always came back to one truth:
WE can’t practice whole-hearted veterinary medicine without a place to call home.
That place found us in late fall 2024 — a great property at 16041 S Lincoln Hwy, just 1.7 miles from where we are now. It’s close to I-55, making it easily accessible for our clients, and close to the heart of Plainfield, where this dream began.
We’re Not Giving Up on Housecalls — We’re Doubling Down
It’s a common story: a vet starts a housecall practice, then opens a brick-and-mortar… and the housecalls fade away.
That won’t be our story.
Housecalls are not just what we do — they are who we are.
This new facility will support our housecall care — not replace it. It will let us keep pets in our care from start to finish. And it will give our team the infrastructure and balance to thrive long-term.

As we build, we are grounding everything in what HOME means:
